How it Works

Orthotics Direct makes it easy to build custom made orthotics just for you. All we need are impressions of your feet and some info on your unique needs and lifestyle. This allows us to create a custom orthotic that's perfect for you.

Submit your cast impressions via traditional Foam Cast or our innovative Digital Casting method. Whichever is easier for you. Our Orthotic Technicians will review the cast and make the necessary corrections and postings to the devices. We make it easy so we can be the #1 choice for orthotics in North America.

Here's how it works:

Digital Cast

Step One: Preperation

Grab a regular letter-sized piece of paper, a heavy book and you're ready to shop. Use your smartphone or tablet to browse the site, create an account and log in.

Step Two: Digital Cast

Take a seat in a well lit room with hard floors and follow the steps provided as you add an item to your cart.

The site will guide you through the process of taking a few pictures of your feet. With these images, Orthotics Direct will build a digital cast that can be used similar to a traditional foot casting.

Step Three: Done!

Click "add to cart" and tell us a bit more about any pain or issues you might be experiencing and our orthotic technicians will be able to build an orthotic that meets your unique needs.

Orthotics Direct will create create custom orthotics from your digital cast. As soon as you finish placing your order with your digital casts, it will be immediately sent to our manufacturing team. Your order will be shipped to you within 5 business days.

Your Digital Cast will be kept on file and can be used for any future orders.

Foam Cast

Step One: Preperation

Remove shoes. (Thin socks are optional)

You may take your foam impression in either a sitting or standing position.

With your left foot centered over the right side of the box, lower your heel into the foam

When taking your cast from a standing position, you may wish to use a chair for balance and support.

Step Two: Impression

Once your heel is in the foam, push down evenly on your forefoot to ensure an accurate impression of your foot. You may use your hand to push your forefoot into the foam or gently push your foot downward.

Step Three: Repeat

Lift your foot straight out of the box. Repeat for the other foot.

When you have finished, close the foam impression kit and place it in the shipping box. Attach the included pre-paid shipping label to the outside of the shipping box and drop it into a Canada Post mailbox (please note that free return of our Foam Kits are only available in Canada - more countries coming soon).

Your custom made orthotics will be manufactured and shipped to you within 5 business days after your foam cast is received.

Foam Cast

Digital Cast

Step One: Preparation

Remove shoes. Thin socks are optional - keeping in mind that the foam will transfer to the sock.

You may take your foam impression in either a sitting or standing position.

If sitting, sit forward in the chair to enable a semi-weight bearing impression. When taking your cast from a standing position, you may wish to use a chair for balance and support.

Step Two: Impression

Center your left foot over the right side of the box with your heel and forefoot level. Apply weight as you lower your heel into the foam. Then push your forefoot and toes down into the foam trying to maintain equal weight distribution between both feet.

Your impression should go deeply enough into the foam to show your arch profile.
